This photo diary study was carried out to gather anecdotal feedback and gain insight into the way readers of The Guardian access news on their mobile devices. We wanted to know where users tend to read the news on their mobile devices, and how much attention is usually given to consuming this news.
It was conducted over a period of one week with 10 readers, who were asked to capture a photo of their environment whenever they accessed The Guardian news on their mobile devices. The cameras on these devices made this particularly easy, as well as the notes application for tapping out quick thoughts and comments in situ.

Pearlyn Quan is an MSc student in Electronic Publishing at City University London. She is currently doing her dissertation with The Guardian, exploring new user testing strategies for their mobile news applications.
She's particularly interested in usability and UX, and finds herself regularly preoccupied with fascinating things like how "pushy" a button looks, or the many ways of ambushing unsuspecting bystanders for guerilla testing.
